Second Harvest rolled out the Mobile Food Pantry Program in 2007. Using sponsorship to fund the program, Second Harvest trucks food into a neighborhood site at a prescheduled time for immediate distribution to residents. The program provides additional food to those in need and gives Second Harvest a valuable channel to increase distribution of perishable food items to ensure that good food will not go to waste. Currently, the Mobile Pantry has distributed over 2 million pounds of food and serves up to 500 hundred households with each scheduled visit.
